Travel to the heart of the aiguilles rouges

Hike up to the pastures of the Loriaz, a mandatory stop when you are in the Chamonix Valley. Reach the mountain hut located at 2020 m in the heart of the Aiguilles Rouges massif, which offers an exceptional panorama of the famous Aiguille Verte and the Mont Blanc massif.

Votre programme détaillé
We will leave the ESF Grands-Montets by bus to get to the start point of the trail in the little village of Le Couteray, Vallorcine. A quiet and steady climb through the forest will lead us to the Mountain hut (2020 m). 700 m of elevation gain before reaching the pastures of the Loriaz. Admire the stunning views and the wilderness that this magical place has to offer.
This trip is subject to the weather forecast. If the conditions are bad the itinerary might be modified.

  • Meeting point at 8:30h at Lognan-Les Grands Montets ESF Office
  • Safety is a priority; we will make a point before departure. Discuss the weather and snow conditions; prepare the itinerary, ARVA test and equipment check.
  • We will leave at 09:00h towards Vallorcine to join the small village of Le Couteray where our hike starts.
  • Quiet and steady climb through the forest before reaching the Loriaz mountain hut. 700 m of uphill gradient - 2h aprox.
  • Arrival to the Loriaz, small break to drink coffee and discover the Mont blanc massif with the help of an IGN map.
  • We continue our hike and explore the surroundings direction Loriaz and Barberine Mountain (+100 m).
  • A well-deserved snack break with a selection of regional products.
  • DVA search training to improve your safety skills before going down.
  • Descent from the cottages of Loriaz towards la croix and le plan and de Sassey, from there we will join the forest trail which passes next to the Tête de Chevrette (2040 m).
  • Return to the ESF at 17:00h.
